Create a stronger connection

Pearls

Today’s Reflection

A retreat is a period of new boundary creation. We take time to pray; we take time to walk; we slow down; we turn off our cell phones. After a few days, or even a few hours, we feel different. We are more relaxed; we breathe; we feel at peace; even the colors around us appear more vivid. . . .

The practice of boundary creation mimics the process of a retreat: We begin to shift what we give our pearls and our holiness — our time, our presence, our selves — to. To do this, we must recognize our inherent value and the value of our time and presence.

—Daniel Wolpert, Looking Inward, Living Outward: The Spiritual Practice of Social Transformation (Upper Room Books, 2024)
