True Religion

Today’s Reflection

True religion consists of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
True religion means loving you with our whole being
and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
Such a love—which we receive from you as a gift—fulfills
all laws and is the totality of what it means
to be a Christian.

—Paul W. Chilcote, Praying in the Wesleyan Spirit: 52 Prayers for Today (Upper Room Books, 2001)

Today’s Question

In what ways are you being called to love God more fully and love your neighbor more deeply?

Today’s Scripture

[Jesus proclaimed,] “The kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”
—Mark 1:15 (NRSVUE)

Prayer for the Week

Gracious God, fill our hearts to overflowing, that we may live not in fear but in joyful obedience. When we stumble or fall short, remind us that your mercy meets us there, inviting us to grow, to abide, and to rejoice in your presence. Let our lives be shaped by your love and sustained by your Spirit. Amen.

Something More

In the devotional classic Praying in the Wesleyan Spirit, renowned Wesleyan scholar Paul Chilcote invited readers to experience the spiritual depth of John Wesley’s sermons through devotional prayer. Now, in Transformed by Grace: 52 More Prayers in the Wesleyan Spirit, Chilcote continues this journey, offering a fresh collection of weekly prayers and hymns inspired by Wesley’s later sermons.
